Fears & Phobias
Almost everyone experiences an irrational fear or two such as to a doctor's appointment or roaches. However when fears become more intense that they cause anxiousness and affect our ability to comfortably live our normal daily lives, they are called phobias which are usually associated with a more traumatic experience.
A fear is a unpleasant, distressing emotion or thought that you experience when you are frightened or worried by something dangerous, painful or bad that is happening or might happen.
A phobia is an unfounded or exaggerated fear of something that's unlikely to cause harm but holds you back and causes significant distress. When someone has a phobia, they experience intense fear of a certain object or situation. People with phobias actively avoid the phobic object or situation, or endure it within intense fear or uneasiness. Phobias are a type of disorder and are very common.
A traumatic experience is an event or an experience that is emotional and one that is deeply distressing or disturbing. When people face deadly or extreme danger, it can sometimes cause lingering shock. Such situations can trigger a fear response that is hard to quell, even when the risk has passed.
While fears and phobias can be extremely uncomfortable and challenging, hypnotherapy can help. If you think you may have a phobia that’s causing a disruption in your life, options are available that can help you with it.
